The Beautiful Trakehner
The Trakehner is an outstanding warmblood breed that is world renowned for their grace, power, intelligence, magnificent movement, exceptional elegance, and overall athletic ability.

The Trakehner has a wonderful temperament - intelligent and alert, yet levelheaded and willing, they are fast learners and have a wonderful ability to cope with a tough workload.

Great Performance Horse
The record of Trakehners in competition is also impressive, particularly in hunter, jumper, eventing, combined training, and dressage! The Trakehner has for many years been used to upgrade and help develop many other warmblood breeds such as the Hanoverian, Danish, Swedish, and Dutch Warmbloods, Oldenberg, and Selle Francais.

How They Came To Be
The Trakehner breed originated in West Prussia and goes back to the 13th century. The breed was further refined in 1732 by King Frederick Wilhelm I of Prussia, whom wanted his solders to have reliable transportation that was faster, sounder, and had more endurance. He developed the Trakehner Stud Farm and introduced Thoroughbred and Arabian influences.

Near Extinction!
The Trakehner breed was severely reduced during World War II, during an extremely long trek pulling wagons of people that fled west to avoid the advancing Soviet army.

The only escape route forced them almost 1000 miles nonstop over the frozen Baltic Sea between East and West Prussia. They endured many hardships, harsh elements, and had only meager rations which left less than 10% survival with only the toughest horses reaching West Germany.

Eventually in 1947 after the War ended, they reestablish the breed that is now being bred and developed all over the world!
